A few questions about antique auto insurance (Texas)?

1. Exactly how old does a car have to be?
2. Is it optional or can I just get regular insurance?
3. Does it cost more to insure an older car, even if it’s a piece of crap, but still runs really great?

Thanks!

  1. Generally an antique or classic must be at least 20 or 25 years old, and have some special or unique quality that makes it a classic, so the "piece of crap" probably wouldn’t qualify. You could use regular insurance, but establishing its value could be difficult; most companies would want an appraisal first.
