Body filler on bare …
Body filler on bare metal caused that rust! i don’t think so! if you apply body filler over rust holes, poor welding or any hole no matter how small then yes it will rust but not clean straight metal.

yeah, phobiablack…what you say makes sense, but it would have to be a repair that didn’t get sealed with epoxy (or urethane?) primer and then sat in the weather. the car in the video was painted. i suppose it could’ve been exposed to weather before it was painted, but they don’t say. i made a habit of putting filler over self-etching primer, then always priming over a repair right after sanding it. so far so good.

Body filler can go …
Body filler can go over both metal and paint. If over paint then the body filler will only hold as good as the paints hold on the car.If the filler is painted and sealed correctly then no rust will happen. In the vid the spot they are looking at has rusted from the other side of the panel. Most likley a nice cosmetic job was done on the outside but the inside of the guard was not protected properly causing this rust

he says not to put filler on bare metal, then in another segment, after they’ve welded and smoothed the metal, they apply filler directly to the metal. am i missing something here?
