Classy Looking Cars

When any component of your car is needs to be replaced, the first and the simplest thing is that you visit to the nearest workshop. But what will you do, when you own a vintage cars or the car which is now no more in production. You can either search for such rare parts online, which is little difficult to find or the other alternative you could attend an auto jumble — prime hunting ground for many old car restorers.

Car enthusiasts are probably familiar with the Beaulieu International Autojumble in the UK or the Hershey Autojumble in the US, but these are events organized once or twice a year for those enthusiasts who collect vintage or classic cars and motorcycles. Here you can find items for sale ranging from spare car parts of all descriptions to engines, accessories, books, manuals, pictures and photographs – anything that is auto related in some way.

The good news is that the Heritage Motoring Club of India (HMCI) fans need no longer traverse thousands of miles. The members of the club recently organized India’s first ever autojumble and is expected to make it an annual event.

At the recently held Auto Expo in Delhi, more than 80 classic cars were displayed with stupendous success. The quality, variety and the volume of the products available at an autojumble. There were also auto spare collectors too who displayed their wares like tail lamps, windshield gaskets, roof rails, switches, steel car rim covers ( these days you’d find only ones), petrol canisters with copper lids, steering wheels.

  1. Why do modern cars look ugly and overly chunky?
Most modern cars i see on the road look really overly scrunched up, like as if they added way to much to them that they now just look hideous and vulgar, Even classy cars like JAG, or BMW, or even MERCS look terrible compared to the versions they had before, updating a car shouldn't mean ruing the image, Do cars just reflect the way society is now and have we lost touch in softer classier smoother ways of driving, or is everything about look how cool i am.

  2. A lot of it is to do with safety legislation. Cars have to have crumple zones, space for multiple airbags and other features before they are deemed road worthy. Unfortunately this often means that modern cars look ungainly compared to older models. Sign of the times i'm afraid!

  3. Seen a Corvette lately. How about a Porsche, Lambourghini or a Ferrari. Not too shoddy in my books. And there are some very distinctive sedans on the market too. The new Mazda 6, Mercedes CLS and the Volkswagen CC come to mind.
Your outlook appears to be just a trifle jaded.

  4. technology has allowed building larger cars with good fuel efficiency and low emissions. particularly in the USA where large cars are popular, the major carmakers are taking advantage of both the technology and the american craving for big things. USA is the biggest automotive market on the planet so what's popular here causes a ripple effect in germany and japan. also cars have tended to be designed to look like everything else on the road. not intentionally i would assume but many cars out there look like everything else. so in an attempt to be more distinguishable, one company may choose to add another crease in the fenders, exaggerate a wheel well or some other overly thought out design characteristic to help stand out. just every other carmaker follows suite. bmw and audi seem to be the ones others try to emulate in their design with a slight modification so as to avoid appearing like they're copying.

  5. Your romanticizing about cars. Why?
Surly no body believes the adverts about the 'open road and the freedom to drive stress free', such a out dated concept.

Modern cars are designed to aspire to modern values.
people are afraid of the road, they feel they need a tank to force others out the way.
I live next to a primary school, and its 4×4 hell at picking up time. Clearly mothers think they need to completely occupy the roads, grinding all other road users to a halt whilst they do the school run.

Something to do with how meaningless their life's have become, and overcompensation's.

Maybe we should all buy a Hummer, a car designed for the military.
The ultimate Ugly / chunky /traffic blocking/ school run / mums car.

I bet the optional Bull Bars would be a favorite for the ever so important school run.
(some of the mothers already have Ball Bars on the school run 4×4. Honest).

  6. The long gas lines "gas SHORTAGE?" in the 1970's made U.S. auto makers start copying, so to speak, smaller cars from overseas and these for a time looked like little bugs. Then for over 30 years they mostly had grills that looked somewhat like smiles on those 'smiley faces'. Too bad they don't have the designing talent of the automobile designers of the 1950's!
